American Schools in Costa Rica

If you are planning on moving to Costa Rica with your children, you may be worried about finding a school in Costa Rica that teaches to the same standards as schools in America. Don’t be! There are several American schools in Costa Rica that offer different grade levels and education options for your student. Most of these schools offer rigorous course work to help your child prepare for college and university after completion. American schools are accredited by both the Association of Colleges and Schools in the United States and by the Costa Rican Ministry of Education. This means that your child will finish his or her education with both a United States diploma and a Costa Rican Bachelaureate. Several of the American schools in Costa Rica also offer Advanced Placement courses, which allows your child to fulfill some college courses prior to graduating high school. Schools in San Jose Costa Rica

High Schools in Costa Rica

In Costa Rica, the public school system is broken into two categories: primary and secondary. Primary school, or elementary school, lasts for six years. Secondary school, essentially middle and high school combined, lasts for five or six years. If your child attends public high school in Costa Rica, he or she will need to speak and understand Spanish, the national language of Costa Rica. English Schools in Costa Rica

Relocating to Costa Rica should be a fun and exciting move for the whole family. While the official language of Costa Rica is Spanish, you will find there are a variety of English schools in Costa Rica, if that is what you decide is best for your child.

One of the main things to consider when selecting an English school in Costa Rica is the location of the school. If you know where in Costa Rica you will be living, you will be able to begin searching for English schools in your new area. Some of these schools even operate on the same calendar system as schools in the United States, making it easy to allow your child to finish his or her current school year before relocating to Costa Rica and enrolling in a new English school.
