English Schools in Costa Rica

Relocating to Costa Rica should be a fun and exciting move for the whole family. In order to ensure that your children get the most fulfilling experience of living in Costa Rica, you will want to find a school that is right for their needs. While the official language of Costa Rica is Spanish, you will find there are a variety of English schools in Costa Rica, if that is what you decide is best for your child.

One of the main things to consider when selecting an English school in Costa Rica is the location of the school. If you know where in Costa Rica you will be living, you will be able to begin searching for English schools in your new area. Some of these schools even operate on the same calendar system as schools in the United States, making it easy to allow your child to finish his or her current school year before relocating to Costa Rica and enrolling in a new English school. Other English schools in Costa Rica are on the Costa Rican public school system which runs from February to December. Be sure to check which calendar system the schools you are looking at operate on so that you can better plan ahead to make the move as easy as possible for your student. Another factor you will want to consider when selecting the right English school in Costa Rica is the tuition cost. Private schools around the world vary greatly in tuition costs, and Costa Rica is no different. Some English schools are as low as $300 per month for tuition, while others can be close to $1,000 per month. Take some time to think about your budget and what you would be able to comfortably afford when sending your child to school. Be sure and ask what exactly the tuition cost covers, so you are not stuck with additional charges each month.

English schools in Costa Rica are private schools, and as such, some of them may have a religious affiliation. If you and your family practice a religion, you may wish to find an English school in Costa Rica that falls in line with your religious beliefs. If your son or daughter has never been exposed to religion, this may be a great way to introduce him or her to a new belief. Take time to consider how a religious affiliation may affect your child’s education. Bear in mind as well that English language schools in Costa Rica may be unisex, allowing only male or female students. Again, you will want to decide as a family if a unisex environment is right for your child.

While the core curriculum in an English school in Costa Rica will be taught in English, the schools may also provide Spanish courses for your child as well. Depending on the school and the courses provided, your child may also have the chance to learn French, German, or even Mandarin. While taking main courses in English will be more familiar to your child, learning a new language can be a fun and exciting challenge for a young child, not to mention a useful skill in the current job market.

With so many options to consider, you will want to do research into all the different English schools in Costa Rica before selecting the one that your child will attend.
